Bringing care into the home is a wonderful way for a loved one to heal in a familiar, comfortable place. A little preparation beforehand makes everything smoother — for the patient and for the care team who will be visiting.
Make the space safe
Most in-home injuries are falls, and most are preventable. Before care begins, walk through the home and look for hazards:
- Clear walkways and remove loose rugs, clutter, and cords
- Add night lights in hallways and bathrooms
- Install grab bars near the toilet and in the shower
- Keep frequently used items within easy reach
Set up a care-friendly area
Choose one comfortable, well-lit room where your loved one can rest and receive care:
- Provide a sturdy chair and room for the care team to work
- Keep a small table nearby for medications and supplies
- Make sure a phone or call device is within reach
Get organized
Having key information ready helps the first visit go quickly and safely:
- A current list of medications, dosages, and allergies
- Names and numbers for doctors and pharmacies
- Insurance cards and emergency contacts in one place
- A short list of questions for the care team
Our team will walk through your home with you and suggest simple adjustments before care begins — you don't have to figure it all out alone.
